Amazon has announced that it will be winding down its AmazonSmile programme, which allowed customers to support charities with their purchases, by February 20th, 2023. To make up for the programme’s closure, Amazon is providing an additional one-time donation to participating charities equivalent to six months of what they earned through the programme in 2022, as well as the opportunity for charities to create their own wish lists.

Amazon plans to focus its philanthropic giving on programmes with greater impact, such as providing support to families in need and using its logistics infrastructure and technology to assist communities impacted by natural disasters. Additionally, Amazon has created an Amazon for Charity store that allows charities to raise money by selling products on Amazon and collecting 100% of profits.

Overall, Amazon is committed to creating a better world for its customers, employees, and the communities it serves. Amazon is continuing to invest in its capabilities to support communities both domestically and abroad, and charities are still able to seek support from Amazon customers through the Amazon for Charity store.

The company will continue to pursue and invest in other areas where it can make meaningful change— from providing support to families in need, to using our logistics infrastructure and technology to assist communities impacted by natural disasters.
